Dandelions & Bad Hair Days.....

Picture
Due for publication on October 10th, Dandelions & Bad Hair Days is a collection of poetry and prose on the subject of mental health. Based  on the personal experiences of those who have had to deal with emotional ill-health, their carers or professionals in the field, it includes all the Mental Health Monthly guest posts on my blog at No Wriggling and additional material by other talented and creative contributors.

The book now has its very own website at www.dandelionsandbadhairdays@wordpress.com and marketing has begun in earnest. The launch will take place on the 10th October at Brendon Books in Taunton where I do hope a good audience will hear excerpts from the book and help raise funds for the mental health charity SANE and other mental health charities nominated by contributors.

Just a few excerpts to arouse your interest:

When you’re way down low, when you’re really in the pit or hanging on the meat-hook, you don’t have the energy to make contact. You watch people ‘being normal’, laughing, joshing, discussing minutiae or whatever and you simply can’t join in. Because none of it makes sense. It’s like they’re talking a totally different language.  (From 'Social Media & the Blues' by Jane Alexander)

It may be time for a new approach, one that is based on acceptance. Those depression-dandelions are growing out of my soul and they’re growing to tell me something I surely need to know and I’ve been unable to face my whole life through .... (From 'Dandelions    & Bad Hair Days' by Vivienne Tufnell)

Feel the moods so dark, so powerful they have substance
Feel the weight of thoughts so heavy they cannot move
Feel the blameless guilt and shame so undeniable
                                                                                                              I want to shout SORRY!!

(From 'I'm Fine' by Chris Rugg)
